TWU Softball: Season Recap

0

A Strong Year of Growth, Grit, and Standout Performances
The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers closed out their softball season with a year defined by steady improvement, emerging talent, and competitive play across the board. TWU finished the regular season with a balanced offense, reliable pitching, and a roster that continued to develop as the year progressed.

Offensively, the Pioneers hit .262 as a team, collecting 330 hits and driving in 155 runs. TWU showed strength in extra‑base hitting with 68 doubles and used speed effectively with 55 stolen bases, giving the lineup multiple ways to pressure opponents.

The team was led at the plate by Marissa Espinoza, who posted a team‑best .333 average and 50 hits. Vivica Hernandez and Hawwa Townsend added consistent production, while Malarie Medina provided power with a team‑high seven home runs.

In the circle, TWU leaned on its two‑pitcher core. Allison Gonzalez anchored the staff with a 3.24 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 140 innings, while Randi Crawford added 11 wins and more than 100 strikeouts of her own. Together, they kept TWU competitive in tight games and gave the team a chance to win every weekend.

TWU closed the regular season with a split in its final doubleheader, showing resilience by bouncing back for a 4–3 win after dropping the opener. It was a fitting end to a season built on fight and steady progress.

With a strong core returning and valuable experience gained, the Pioneers head into next year with momentum — and a foundation ready to take the next step.
