Nothing More Brings The Fire Ahead Of An Icy Dallas Night

0

Nothing More has just wrapped up the second week of their Carnal Nature World Tour. Fans were anxiously refreshing their social feeds ahead of the band’s January 23rd stop in Dallas as shows were being postponed left and right due to the upcoming winter storm. Still, the hardcore fanbase prevailed and Nothing More played to a packed Southside Ballroom supported by Catch Your Breath, ARCHERS, and Doobie.

Doobie, AKA Eric Williams is a self-produced rapper turned rocker from Columbus, Ohio. He recently made the genre switch with his debut rock album “Give ‘Em Hell Until You Get to Heaven” The stage lit up as he played the first of his nine song set “Until I Get to Heaven,” a song that perfectly blended electronic elements, rap, and rock all into one. One of my personal highlights was hearing the band’s cover of “Mother” by Danzig that turned the crowd into a full sing-a-long. I had the chance to speak with the band after the show and was met with nothing but genuine kindness all around. I definitely look forward to seeing what they do next.

Kicking off the metalcore vibes for the evening was Madison, Wisconsin’s ARCHERS, made up of members Nathanael Pulley on lead vocals, Ben Koehler on guitar, Drew Hansen on bass, and Grayson Mesarosh on drums. Their set included songs from their 2024 EP Drag Me Out as well as the then unreleased track, “The Dirt” released on Friday, January 30th. Adrenaline remained high as ARCHERS finished off their set with their powerful track “Perfect Strangers,” a song that quickly found its way to my personal playlist. During the set the band also announced their recent signing with Fearless Records, and rumor has it they have some BIG things underway.

Catch Your Breath out of Austin, Texas were next to hit the stage, but not before the crowd put on their very own performance of Limp Bizkit’s “Break Stuff”. They came in hot with their track “SAVAGES” setting the tone for their ten song set, most of which contained songs from their 2023 album Shame on Me released through Thriller Records. Midway through the set they played their — new single “Lost” which was released earlier that day. The crowd was amped as they sang along to songs such as “21 Gun Salute” and “Dial Tone,” so amped in fact, that Catch Your Breath had to stop their set twice due to crowd disruptions. Their closing track “Shame on Me” had people crowdsurfing from beginning to end in some of the biggest waves I’d ever seen.

At last, the band that had dedicated fans waiting in freezing temps and rainy weather from early hours, San Antonio’s Nothing More hit the stage. Lead vocalist and former drummer Jonny Hawkins, was adorning his usual no shirt/no shoes with a painted chest look, alongside guitarist Mark Vollelunga, bassist Daniel Oliver, and drummer Ben Anderson.

The energy in the crowd was palpable as the band ripped into “HOUSE ON SAND”, the opening track on their 2024 album CARNAL. The crowdsurfers were ready and made their way to the front as the photographers danced around the security personnel waiting to catch them. Halfway through the set the band dove into an amazing instrumental solo featuring Jonny banging on some drums and the fretboard of a bass joined by members Mark and Daniel making for a major highlight of the night. A memorable moment for me was hearing the song “Jenny” live for the first time, an emotional track about the mental health and addiction Hawkins’ sister had battled. Later on, Jonny asked the crowd to vote between playing their song “SPIRITS” or “Mr. MTV” to which the crowd emphatically chose “Mr. MTV”. After the band wrapped up the night with “This is the Time (Ballast), drummer Ben Anderson signed off with a killer solo as the crowd made their way to the exits to beat the freeze.

Nothing More’s CARNAL NATURE WORLD TOUR continues and is due to conclude on March 17th at Ozark Music Hall in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Check out the remaining dates below:
