When I listen to any new release, it seems there is always at least one song that pulls me in. You know, makes me stop what I’m going and pay attention. Hit the rewind a few times and dive into some for of analysis mode. My life, their music, how do these go together? Well, with the new Honeymoon Suite, Way Too Fast off their latest release Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down, stopped me dead in my tracks.
Honeymoon Suite is one of the college bands I fell in love with back in the later 80s. What Does it Take, Feel it Again, New Girl Now; their music defined much of the better part of what that time frame had to offer. Over the years I’ve followed their progress, missed them through the 90s, then they resurfaced in 2002 with Lemon Tongue and since then, they music has kept coming.
And I love it!
Now sometimes, it’s a single song, but the signs of life were there. Better days were coming! In 2024 I reviewed “Alive” and was quite happy with what they were doing here. Now, I don’t know what they put in the water up in Canada these days, but getting another full release a year later?
Yes, please!
2025 hits and we have 10 songs with Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down. At this point, let me get back to what stopped me dead in my tracks and took me back to those times I mentioned above. But, lets take the long road to that point, shall we?
Back to the What Does it Take and Feel it Again days. You see, I grew up and those songs wouldn’t mean the same today, I don’t think. That’s the beauty and curse of music. They’re almost a trap in time.
The trick is, can you capture that feeling later in life. Again. Heh, “feel it again”.
I’m turning 60 this month and yea, that story will be on the site on the 23rd. So much of my life has changed since 1988. What drives me, what I consider “good” music today, and can it make me feel “something”. To do that, you have to make me relate. Way Too Fast.
It’s time you don’t get back.
So, yes; Honeymoon Suite, even after all these years, can pull life out of thin air and put it into music that will move you.
And that’s what music is supposed to do, new and old. The songs we’ve all heard to the private favorites only we love. If you’ve followed Honeymoon Suite over the years, you’ll find Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down much the same. Solid music you’ll love and add a few to our favorites list.
I recommend Stay This Time, Ever Leave you Lonely and – Unpredictable – well, it was. Make sure you give that and all 10 songs a few good listens!
It won’t ever be 1988 again. Not for any of us. We will, however, find music we can relate to in the times we are in. And much like back in 1988, the music of Honeymoon Suite is a big part of my life. Older, sure. But I can relate to todays messages just as well as I did back then.
Well Done, guys; well done!
