Dallas vs. LA - Rules and Gameplay

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

First of all, it must be said this is done to promote music and get people involved in the respective scenes. We're after a friendly competition and don't want to burden it with rules, regulations, and stipulations that only complicate it and make it no so much fun. That said, the rules will be kept simple to put the focus on the music, where it belongs.

We're working to start in Jan of 2010 and run for a set timeframe, still to be determined. The overall idea is the brainchild of Renegade Radio's iceberg and The Edge's Jeff Duran in LA, who's been hosting "icepicks" to promote up and coming music for close to a year now. We wanted to kick off 2010 with a great way to get people interested in Indie music and hopefully, we found a way that work and who knows, maybe we'll help discover the next big rage. Wouldn't that be something?

The winning band will be featured in LIT Magazine here on Dallas as well as on Renegade Radio with a live interview on both stations. All bands we hope see it as a win to be involved and help bring more attention to our respective local Indie scenes as well as learn more about another scene 1/2 a country away.

The Rules. To be updated as clarification warrants.

1. Bands will be "Indie Bands" at the time they are played on 100.1 The Edge for the contest. Flirtations with being signed previously are allowed. This means they can have been signed before but success must have been limited in scale. No 2nd deal, quickly dropped, quickly ended your own contract, things of this nature are allowed.

2. Dallas vs LA is the working title of the show. However, iceberg is free to pull any Indie band out of Texas for the show, and Jeff Duran can pull from California as well. In the end it's Texas vs California. How they choose the bands will be up to the two DJ's/Promoters.

3. Bands who are entered into the contest will need to provide written/e-mail concent to be played on both The Edge as well as Renegade Radio.

4. You can listen either 100.1 FM in Los Angeles or also via the Internet on www.edge100.com. You will have 1 hour to call in and / or e-mail your vote into Jeff Duran to determine the nights winner.  Winners will be announced shortly after voting closes.

5. The winning bands will go up against each other in a finals towards the end of the contest to determine which band will rise up the Champion of Dallas vs. LA.

With any luck, this is just Round 1 of a lot more to come.

Find The Commotion
written by Just a nobody, January 24, 2010
I heard The Commotion at Trees on Saturday night. In my humble opinion they are the best indie group Dallas has to offer. They aren't out there pushing themselves onto everyone and the music speaks for its self. I don't think they will be trying to find renegade radio and get you to promote them only because these guys are very down to earth and do music from the heart instead of for the notoriety. The singer recorded the songs in his apartment but the recording rivals any large studio endeavor. They execute a live performance flawlessly and without pretense. I feel too many bands are overly concerned with their image these days and The Commotion comes off as truly being about good music. Please find these guys because they really deserve some great exposure.
