so, what the HELL happened?

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

is it any wonder i don't clean up things more than i do? let me back up a bit and explain why we lost the other site and how we got to where we are today.

the other day i called jeff duran at 100.1 the edge in Los Angeles to do our weekly ice picks segment. jeff let me know a caller tried to hit our site and found out i was a serial killer. yes, that struck me as a bit odd because as far as i know i've never killed anyone, much less a lot of people. then it dawned on me.

our old site was a newspaper looking site and when we filmed my indie film 7 Sunsets, i converted it to make me look like i was in the online newspaper but only after we routed to the new site with a brand new joomla setup. or so it seemed. that's important here in a bit.

so i started to try and figure out how someone could find a site that i never directly link to anymore and all my domain names pointed to the new site. BING! it came to me. he may have used a search engine (like bing!) and found the old one that way. well, i can't have new people who don't know me (that's how i classify them as new, btw) thinking i'm a serial killer, so with the filming done and now in the capable hands of our video expert mike, i felt i could get rid of the site.

i logged into the backend and went through the joomla uninstall on the OLD site and yes, it deleted the database for that site. who cares, we're in a brand new joomla setup, right?

if you're under 18, please skip the next sentence.

FUCK.

we now return you to our PG-13 article.

though i could never tell you why or how it happened, the new joomla setup was using the old database. lose one, lose both. 2 other joomla sites are find and dandy and wondering why my panic was setting in. how a computer website wondered that i don't know but you'll have to forgive me, i was in a minor state of shock.

ok, a major state of shock.

i opened a support ticket immediately and begged them to restore the DB. i got a reply pretty quickly asking me the name of the database. i looked it up and found it and quickly got back to them with hope off in the distance taunting me. from there it went downhill faster than the Star Wars movies. not only did they never restore it, they had a server problem and i lost the ONE DAMN PAGE where i could tell people what was up.

have you ever seen a grown man cry? me either but i came damn close yesterday. all our stories, articles, and writings were gone in a simple mishap that never should have happened. when you install joomla it will create a new db so this will remain a mystery for me. however, as many people know i like to redo things, but i suppose this time it was in more of a drastic measure than ever before.

i can only apologize to all for having to come back from scratch and yes, everyone will have to re-register. i hope everyone comes back and i offered to buy ville a dinner of his choice if he'll do another live interview with kelly. that seems to bring a few hundred (thousand?) people to the site and hey, to get people back i'm no fool.

well not in that category.

so here's the new and improved renegaderadio.net. we'll still be putting things back as we can but wanted to restore base functionality as soon as we could. we're with a new provider that actually supports their customers, and we're back.

now kelly won't let me touch the controls for awhile. does anyone blame her? next time i need to clean something i'm going to remember i'm a 44 year old single bachelor - i don't have to clean anything at all and live that motto to its fullest!

You know I did that on the old FuneralOfHearts.com forums not just once but twice. Messing with databases is scary business. I definitely learned my lesson with that. And well I don't run a community on it anymore. LOL :-P I do hope people come back here though.
