Black Sunshine is another band that seems to come out of nowhere and hit the scene with something a little new, but a little like old times as well. With a touch of southern hospitality, a sense of honesty and control, and some genuine heartfelt lyrics found throughout the release, Black Sunshine is set to take their turn at the plate while a rough "download everything" society is set to once again test the integrity of the average listener.
Matt Reardon, once known for extreme sports and one of the top free skiers in the world went through 11 surgeries and decided to forgo the ease of extreme sports and dive into the more dangerous world of music. In time he brought Matt "Toast" Young, Vinnie Colaiuta and Brian Tichy together to form a band with nothing but great music to offer in Black Sunshine.
"I will remember to not take another day for granted, once in my life" - Matt Reardon, Once In My Life.
To help bring this vision to the light of day, the band recorded with Grammy award winning producer Bob Marlette (Shinedown, Lynard Skynard, Black Sabbath, Seether and Saliva) and the influence seems to fit their style to perfection. You'll get the straight ahead riffs and memorable melodies that will have you singing along in no time.
Their debut release of the same name Black Sunshine makes it's first mark on the music scene with Once In My Life. This song alone shows Matts creative side with a soulful arrangement and message we can all find our own faith and understanding of a common challenge to us all. But his depth doesn't stop at one song.
"Untie this noose, set me free, don't want to be a slave, slave to the grind" - Matt Reardon, Slave.
Common messages and even clichés can easily dominate a song if there isn't any meaning and experience behind the words. Matt Reardon definitely avoids this trap. As you listen to Black Sunshine, you'll find your own bright spots through the release and appreciate the arrangements and hooks that pull you into another mans mind.

Cannonball will slowly pull you "into reality" and show you that you can write a slow song that doesn't have to be a ballad and when you've mellowed out for a bit, Hell Year will pick you back up and get you rocking again.
"It's human nature to discover something other than the good inside another" - Matt Reardon, Flying Sideways.
Black Sunshine has a lot to be proud of in their initial release. Their challenges are now for the most part out of their hands as they now face the bigger challenge in the industry - sales. In a time where sharing files and music has become far too socially acceptable, one can only hope that Black Sunshine won't fall victim to a selfish mindset that sometimes seems intent on killing off the very music it proposes to love. Take the time to buy their release on I-tunes. Even if you don't buy it all, I can only promise you there's a few songs you'll find yourself happy to shell out some hard earned cash and make your own.
