Embrace Album Review

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Since their inception in 2003, Ember has continued to grow.  From their first EP Take Everything to Embrace, the growth you see and hear is incredible.  Their hard work and dedication to their craft is very evident with their latest CD Embrace.  Released under their first major record label VSR EMI Records, Embrace represents Ember as they have always wanted to sound.  Seven tracks in length this CD contains six classic Ember songs that have been rewritten and re-mixed and one brand new song.

Below is a track by track guide of the CD.

"Give a Little" – In its second recorded version, “Give a Little” has received a brand new introduction, reworked lyrics, and a bit heavier sound.  If you are curious about the first recorded version, you can find it on the band’s second EP “Under Pressure."

"The Deep End" – No song tells the story of Embers growth more than “The Deep End”.  One of bands oldest songs, “The Deep End” you hear on “Embrace” is the third recording and probably the sixth or seventh live version.  A product of constant improvement on Ember’s end, this song has wide appeal and is about all of life’s choices.  As lead guitar player Deuce Wanier articulates, “It can be related to anything in life, any decision that would be made, any trial or tribulation that somebody might go through … we’ve all been at that point in our life whether its dealing with a breakup or … financial issues … whatever the case maybe…” it’s a song that a lot of people can relate to.  With its wide appeal, “The Deep End” earned the position as the first single off of the new album complete with a music video that is slated to release in the near future.

Ember in Germany"#1 Fan" – This song is close to the band’s heart because they are all number one fans of other bands, music, and fans of their fans.  The first version of “#1 Fan” was recorded in raw, real, form as part of the band’s first full length independently released album From the Floor.  Now in its second recorded version, “#1 Fan” has received a polished finish with a new introduction, reworked lyrics, and a studio sound.  While a few long time Ember fans have expressed that they like the first version more because of its simplicity, the complex nature of the second version is slowly starting to win them over.

"On My Own" – Previously named “Overcome”, the first version of this song can be found on the band’s second EP “Under Pressure” which was produced by Sylvia Massy Shivy.  While the quality of the first recording is excellent, the new lyrics and crisp sound has only made this song even better.

"In the Rain" – Originally from their first EP “Take Everything”, this old school Ember tune tells the tale of the band’s growth as it went from average to exceptional.  With new lyrics, a completely different sound, and no soft counting at the beginning, “In the Rain” received the facelift it deserved to bloom into a beautiful work of art.

"Blind" – Still a classic Ember tune and a crowd favorite even in its second recording, the added bridge and studio effects provide the finishing touches of this exceptional song.  It, however, is nothing compared to the last song on the album.

"Embrace" – This new Ember tune is so beautiful it will make you want to cry.  Representing what this band is capable of producing, “Embrace” is the strongest song out of this entire collection of Ember tunes.  To give it the attention it deserves, the band named the CD after it and then returned to Phoenix, Arizona at the end of April 2010 to shoot a music video for it.

For every album that Ember releases, they only get better and continue to exceed my expectations.  After listening to Embrace, it excites me to no end to see what they will produce next.

Embrace can be purchased at Amazon.com, Best Buy, iTunes, and a live Ember show near you.

While you are at it, go check them out on MySpace and Facebook.  To find their Facebook page, conduct a search for "Ember".
