500 street fights

500 fights, that’s the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that’s what you are.

this, of course, is from the 2001 film knockaround guys. i wish i could take credit for it but if i did, well yea, i’d personalize it a bit. however, the message is the same when you do just that. twist it a bit in ORDER to personalize it. by now i realize i’m rambling for the sake of being cute and about to forget my point. damn age.

if you fight it out long enough you no longer see the fight, it just becomes you. i started https://renegaderadio.net in order to get some fights in. learn some. have some great times and prove i was legitimate. i was here to say and i was going to make my fights along the way and all these years later it has become nothing to do with the fight, but about who i am and how to make that better.

i’m likely rambling to most but a few are just going “fuck yea” and to those people, thank you. thats why we’ve been here for 15+ years. for those who get it. for those who know it’s gonna be a fight while the entire god damn music industry has to go find itself all over again.

gene simmons rock and roll is far from dead cause i see and hear it every day. i feel it from those who are here because of the music not the “corporate party” we laughed at while rocking to in the day. well that’s who we were then. this is us now. and while everything around music has in fact changed, music has not. it’s still as varied as it ever was, listened to daily by billions around the world, and carrys us through the times we will never forget, good and bad and just another day gone by.

last night i had a chance to get a peek behind a curtain and what i saw was amazing and the potential to start redefining things all over again is here. all around us still in pieces yes.

still in pieces.

but these pieces keep coming together and as they do you begin to see a bigger picture and what you’re doing becomes more clear as each piece comes into play. we’re gonna make that differnce one way or another and continue to push music against the grain because there has never been a greater time to pull away from the cookie cutter rules of yesterday stilli in place for no other reason than they’ve got no place else to go. all the “power” of what you listen to is in the hands of the fans. what you go find, how you find it, and what you choose to support in whatever fashion drives the freedom to do so.

i’m seeing others have ideas i’ve been wondering when they’d come into play. but then i’m seeing them do something about it and that’s amazing as hell.

i’m gonna keep fighting for what i do cause i can see some amazing things coming down the way and we’re wanting to be a part of it. I see that it’s happening for all reasons you want to be in this industry to begin with. the music and the fun. the politics of music may one day come back into play but today – it’s simply not there.

i view these days as an honest time in music because if you’re in this business today it’s because of love not the money and love tends to be a lot more honest and while we may not hear and understand we are in fact hearing tomorrows classics today, we are. they’ll just be classics for a whole new reason and those reasons, we’ll their part of the fight today.

500 street fights and counting. we’re in this and i can see some fun coming. buckle up.
